Powder Bathroom Update

Powder Bathroom Update
This transitional modern vintage powder bathroom update features black and white paradise palm wallpaper with polished brass accents, unlacquered brass knobs, and Benjamin Moore Advance black paint.

Design Concept

Transitional modern vintage design was the theme for this powder bathroom update. I am a strong believer in designing your interiors to match the style of your home. Our home is located in Wilmington, North Carolina and has a vintage, southern charm to it, with a white brick exterior and black shutters. The inside of our home is covered in custom wood paneling and vintage brass hardware. We wanted to update our outdated powder room and love a modern style but also wanted to feel like it fit within our home.

Wall Paper and Mirror

We live minutes from the beach so I wanted to pay homage to the beach life with the palm leaf wallpaper design, while keeping the transitional modern, vintage style of the rest of our home. After all, the vintage charm is one of the beautiful things that drew us to this home in the first place. The mirror was a nice transitional balance between modern and traditional.

Cabinets

We repurposed the vanity that was already in the bathroom by simply painting it and changing out the hardware and faucet. We used Benjamin Moore Advance black paint, which is my all time favorite for painting wood and cabinet projects. It lays beautifully and you do not need to do a ton of sanding. This is the same paint I used in my How to Paint Dated Railings post, if you want to check that out.

Fixtures

I wanted to bring in the vintage charm with the fixtures so we went with a Kingston Brass faucet in polished brass and a modern vintage pendant light from Amazon.

Hardware

We wanted to balance the vintage accents with some modern pieces so we went with these modern unlaquered brass knobs from CB2 to complete the vanity. While these are modern in design, the unlaquered brass patinas over time and created a beautiful vintage tarnished look the more they are touched. We picked a theme of brass and had fun with mixing the metal types with brushed brass on the pendant light, unlaquered brass knobs, and a polished brass faucet and accents.

Polished Brass Accents

We completed the look with polished brass accents to match the Kingston Brass faucet and all the polished brass in the rest of our home. The towel ring holder and toilet paper holder are both from Kingston Brass. The electrical, light switch plates, and the toilet handle lever are great affordable finds from Amazon.
