Dried pressed flowers

Step #1: Start by gathering your supplies

You’ll need the following:

I used left over flowers I purchased from Trader Joe’s for my Wildflower Baby Shower event. Fresh flowers work best, so enjoy them for as long as you like and then covert to pressed flowers once you can tell they will turn soon.

Step #2: Pull blooms off stems and place on paper towel

Pull the blooms off the stems right at the base of the bloom so they can lay as flat as possible but still keep the petals in tact. Try a variety of flowers as some will press better than others. You can then decide which ones you want to keep and continue to press.

Step #3: Place a second paper towel over top of flowers and weigh down with microwave safe dish

Fold over paper towel or top with a second paper towel, being sure to completely cover the flowers. Place a microwave safe dish on top of the flowers to press them flat (this is key). Try to choose a dish that covers all of the flowers.

Step #4: Microwave for 90 seconds at 50% power

Microwave the flowers for 90 seconds at 50% power. Remove the flowers from the microwave, let them cool and then gently peel back the top paper towel. Some flowers may still be a bit soft on the petals but they should be ready to use right away for most projects. If you are not using right away, you can store them to dry further in between books or paper bags (preferred) with a weighted book/dish on top. They also sell pressed flower photo albums that are great for storage.

Step #5: Select your desired pressed flowers for your next craft!

I plan to use these for resin coasters that my sister and I would like to make together. There are so many beautiful crafts you can make with these though, so have fun and Create Your Joy!
